Dr. Stephen Ives is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Health and Human Physiological Sciences at Skidmore College. He earned his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Utah and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Geriatrics at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center. Dr. Ives' research centers on cardiovascular physiology, with a focus on exercise and dietary interventions. Dr. Ives uses novel techniques to assess cardiovascular health, including heart rate variability, central blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and vascular function. Exposing undergraduates to research and involving them in all aspects of research, from idea development to proposal drafting, execution, and dissemination, is central to his work. Dr. Ives has experience in securing funding from industry partners, private associations, and government funding agencies. Dr. Ives presents his research regionally, nationally, and internationally at meetings such as the American Physiological Society and the American College of Sports Medicine. He has published over 100 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, ranging from case series to randomized controlled trials. Dr. Ives is currently an editor at the European Journal of Applied Physiology and the journal Nutrients.
